Who doesn't love a good candle? You use candles to scent your home or office, to unwind or even to take away smells of food and cigar or cigarette smoke. But have you thought of trying your hand at making your own candles? It's super easy and fun for the whole family. There are easy accessible kits at both your local department and craft stores, see this episode here , where I used a candle making kit from Walmart! With kits you can not control the type of wax you have but you can definitely get the wax you need and that I personally prefer from a craft section from the discount department stores or from the craft store online or in store. First, you need soy wax, eight ounce candle tins, candle wicks, color, fragrance, glue dots or a glue gun and glue sticks ( I prefer the latter )...all these items are very affordable. Once you have everything you need, you're going to measure out one pound which is about sixteen ounces. This will give you three 8 ounce candles. The math...
When Renee from Soaps for Love, first approached me about doing a YouTube Collaboration, I had no idea it would be this fun or; let's face it, with this amount of people. I mean c'mon 17 soap makers on YouTube all working together for one purpose... unheard of, but if anyone could hold this group together it would be Renee. She's a woman, with a beautiful soul and a giving heart, giving away for FREE all the artisan soap she makes to those less fortunate and/or just to brighten up someone's day.
This collaboration, although overwhelming was a fun experience and grew my soaping family astronomically. All the people I have met through this soap making process of creating a beer soap for St. Patrick's Day, has connected me with so many beautiful people and it's so heartwarming to know theirs so many others out there like me, that are creating and doing what they love.
For my soap, Truffle Butter, I chose to keep it simple. I used four different milks and butters, along with a Guinness Stout t formulate my soap, but that wasn't enough. One of the rules we had to follow for our YouTube Collaboration was to use the color green. Now I already had in my mind, I wanted my soap to look like a cool glass of beer so I had to come up with a solution that would keep it simple yet follow the rules. Then, I got it! It came to me like lightening. I made a mold and created some shamrock coins. Perfect! They topped off my soaps just right.
I couldn't be more proud of myself at this very moment and my fellow soap makers. We all came together for something that helped us grow, learn and have fun. In this day and age, if you're not doing something that makes you feel good and you're not learning from it...you need to figure out something else. Stress is for the birds lol.
Do something today that makes you smile!
